Common Questions

Who do you work with?

I work with adults, and with young people aged 12 upwards.  For parents seeking help for your son or daughter I may suggest working with you either instead of or as well as your child, as this can be really beneficial in bringing about changes.  Mostly I work one-to-one, but I also to see parents and/or families together.

Where do you work?

I work in Atworth, between Bath and Melksham, in a private, comfortable and quiet room.

What happens at the first session?

I believe that a good relationship is fundamental to the success of the counselling. The initial 30 minute session gives you the chance to ask questions about how I work, what is involved, and decide whether you would feel comfortable with me working with you, or your child.

It may be that we decide not to work together, and I can offer advice and information about finding other sources of help.

What are counselling sessions like?

I provide a safe space where you are able to talk about any aspect of your life, whether it is something you wish to change, think about or do differently, or simply discuss with someone unconnected with your day-to-day life.

Often we will spend the time talking, though I may suggest using creative or art therapy techniques if I feel it could help.

How often would I see you?

Usually people see me weekly, at the same time and day each week. Sometimes towards the end of the work we may meet fortnightly.

How many times will I see you?

This varies from person to person, and will be a mutual decision. For some, around 6 weeks may feel enough, but for others a more open-ended approach may be better, perhaps working together for 6 months or more. We will review regularly to check how things are going, which allows us to be flexible in adapting the counselling to best suit you, taking into account on-going transitions and the unpredictability of life.

What if I still have more questions?

I am really happy to be contacted to answer any questions before arranging a meeting – please feel free to phone, text or email me.
